This is a cross sectional study, carried out to assess the prevalence and factors affecting sexual harassment (SH) among female staffs of a supermarket in Kathmandu, Nepal. The data were collected with self-administered questionnaire from 170 staffs. Uni-variate (for descriptive detail) and bivariate (for statistical detail) analyses were the methods applied. 75.9% of respondents were sexually harassed and among them more were from age group 15-30. Out of all victims, 80.5% were harassed verbally, 39% were harassed non-verbally and 48.8% were harassed physically. Victims were harassed either when they were alone (non-verbally 56.5% and physically 78.3%) or when the customers were crowded (non-verbally 29.3% and physically 88.2%). Most of the victims accepted the problem (non-verbally 55.6% and physically 94.4%) due to fear of being fired and social stigma. Non-verbal (53.8%) and physical (100%) harassments occurred mostly during night shift whereas verbal harassment (63.4%) occurred during day shift. The Chi Square and Fisher exact tests identified that there was significant statistical association (P-value<0.05) between physical harassment with age, shift, perpetrator and acceptance of the events by victims. In order to reduce sexual harassment among female staffs of supermarkets, there must be awareness programs for all the staff, advocacy programs against SH for customers and punishment for the perpetrators. must be made aware through posters and other means of advocacies against SH and perpetrators should be legally punished.
